Title: Interview of Ratan Roy

Abstract: Profile of Ratan Roy, trade union leader from Bihar. He was the General Secretary of Bihar AITUC for a long time. Born in 1923, he got involved in radical politics through student movement. Initially he was a member of the Yugantar group, but soon he got disillusioned and by 1939, he became one of the founders of the Bihar branch of the communist party. In 1942, he led the railways workers movement. He organised militant struggles of workers in TISCO, and other places. The struggles of AITUC ensured wage revision, and introduction of variable DA, which was not there before. In 1972-73, a massive strike was organised in Bokaro, of both regular and contract workers.
