Began working with the All India Women's Congress, and later organised sugar and bidi workers in Pune and Ahmednagar. She also organised peasants against illegal taxes in Ahmednagar. She left CPI in 1982 and joined UCPI, but didn't disaffiliate the unions from AITUCen_US
