Originally from East Bengal, his family migrated to India in 1951. Initially worked as a school teacher, he later joined the Bhilai Steel Plant as a Drill Assistant, and then got involved into unionising. He led struggle of workers for regularisation of 3,000 contractual cooperative workers, who were finally regularised by the NDMC.
