Got into communist politics when still was a student, under the influence of Dange and others. Joined LIC in 1955. Also participated in the 1955 United Maharashtra movement. Led and participated in struggles of LIC workers, beginning from the General Strike of 1955, when "shoot-at-sight" orders were given to the police.en_US
