Abstract

Brief profile of the Union Carbide Employee's Union Tamil Nadu: formation of the union in 1956 with affiliation to the AITUC, parallel minority INTUC Union formed in 1967, and LPF Union in 1969. In 1970, a 'nine-member committee was set up to form a new union, which remains the sole representative of the workers - achieved new wage agreement, participated in strikes in 1973 and 1990. A list o the union's presidents from 1956-2001 are also mentioned.
