Profile of Vinoy Lahiri, founder of CPI and AITUC in Meghalaya. Born in 1924, he belonged to an elite landed family. But his family members were nationalists and he joined the Quit India movement as a volunteer of the Forward Bloc. Later joined the army and was sent to Imphal, where he accidently met members of the Communist Party of Great Britain, who were working in the British Army, and learnt theory from them. |
