Interview of Shanti Patel, veteran Janata Party Leader and Trade Union leader of the Dock Workers Association. In 1948, when the first Pay Commission was announced, Patel was instrumental in seeking amendments, according to the working conditions of the port. A Strike of 10,000 workers paralysed the entire Bombay port. Met Gandhi and other national leaders, in the negotiations, following the strike. Also organised successfully the first post-independence general strike of 1958. |
