Born in a Arya Samaji family in Gurdaspur, his father was tortured by the British. Participated in the Quit India movement and after freedom, got associated with Dr Lohia, who got him a job in the railways Participated in the railway strikes of 1960 and 1974 and jailed because of them.	en_US
