dc.description.abstract Profile of G.V. Chitnis, veteran leader of CPI and AITUC. Born in 1927 in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. Passed B. Com from Bombay in 1947. Dange put him in the AITUC office in Bombay, where he worked as a Secretary. Started working with textile workers and in 1971, elected as the General Secretary of the GKU. He participated in the memorable struggles of textile workers in 1962 and 1974. Chitnis was in charge of the strike machinery, while Dange was the leader in the 1970's strike. en_US
