dc.description.sponsorship Profile of D.D. Shastri, veteran leader of TUCC and Forward Bloc. Born in 1918, in Kanpur, he belonged to a family of Congressmen. He began trade union work in the textile mills of Kanpur. Also organised a big strike of Mahila Karamchari Sangh in UP, when Charan Singh had terminated the services of many women employees arbitrarily. The strike ended successfully, with 4,000 workers taken back into the service. en_US
